Apprentice of the Month – September 2023
Tell us a bit about yourself.
I’ve always been interested in sports. As a Peterborough United supporter, I’ve travelled around the country to watch them play. My love for the game extends to playing football as a goalkeeper. After completing school, I wanted to find a path that allowed me to turn my passion into a career. That’s when I stumbled upon the opportunity for a sports apprenticeship. It felt like the perfect fit, aligning my love for sports with a structured learning and training programme.
Why did you choose to be an inspire+ apprentice?
My decision to become an Inspire+ apprentice was mainly due to my passion for sports. When my parents saw an online advertisement for the program, it immediately caught my attention. The opportunity to combine my love for sports with a learning and training program seemed like a perfect fit for me. While my parents were supportive of my choice, it was my genuine enthusiasm for sports that made me apply.
What have you learned during your apprenticeship so far?
During my apprenticeship, I’ve gained essential skills in classroom management and leadership within physical education. I’ve developed the ability to effectively handle and lead PE classes, ensuring a structured and engaging learning environment for students. Additionally, I’ve been able to take part in a lot of diverse games and activities through my observations of experienced coaches at HAF camps and the teaching methods employed by educators at school.
What do you hope to achieve in the future? What are your career ambitions?
While I’m not entirely certain about my future career path, my love for sports remains a driving force in my ambitions. I aspire to have a meaningful and impactful role in the world of sports. My overall goal is to stay deeply involved in the world of sports and use my knowledge and skills to positively influence and inspire others.
Would you like to share a good memory from your apprenticeship?
One of the most rewarding aspects of my apprenticeship is the immediate feedback from the children. It’s heart-warming when, at the end of a session, the students say thank you and give some positive feedback. Knowing that I’ve made a positive impact and that the children appreciate the effort I put into the lessons is truly fulfilling and motivating.
Do you recommend other people to become an inspire+ apprentice? Explain why.
I wholeheartedly recommend the Inspire+ apprenticeship program to individuals who find joy in being around children and thrive in a school environment. This programme offers a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of young learners through sports and physical education. It’s not just a job; it’s an experience that can be deeply rewarding. As an apprentice, you have the chance to develop your skills and knowledge, receive valuable mentorship, and witness the growth and appreciation of the students you work with.
