Apprentice of the Month – February 2024
Could you please share some insights about yourself?
Some of my hobbies include, dance, walking my dog, going to the gym and spending time with friends and family. Although I don’t dance now, I spent 14 years dancing and it’s something I really enjoyed. I enjoy going to the gym to keep myself fit and release some endorphins. I really enjoy getting out in the fresh air and walking my dog whether this is by myself or with family and friends. I love being in the company of my family and friends and making new memories. I also volunteer once a night at Grantham life saving club. This is a lovely club that I like to think helped me gain a bit of experience working and teaching with younger children.
What motivated your decision to become an Inspire+ apprentice?
I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do after my last year in sixth form, I knew I didn’t want to go to university but wasn’t sure what apprenticeship I wanted to do. Many teachers had suggested that I do the inspire plus course, my parents thought it would also be a good idea for me to gain some experience and see if I enjoy working within a school. I also had a few friends who were already apprentices within inspire plus who had mentioned they really enjoyed what they were doing. I thought it would be a nice way to earn some money and experience whilst helping me decide what career pathway I want to choose.
What valuable insights and skills have you gained thus far during your apprenticeship?
Patience Flexibility Team work
What skills have you learned from attending training one day per week?
How to adapt and change activities to ensure they suite everyone’s needs.
What do you enjoy about your apprenticeship?
Being able to learn whilst on the job. As well as gain the experience of working with both child (ages 4-11) and adults of different job roles, e.g. Teachers, TA, lunch staff etc.
What do you hope to achieve in the future? What are your career ambitions?
Within the future I hope that this apprentice will encourage me to try new things and come out of my comfort zone. At this moment in time, I am still unsure on what career path I would like to take, however, the apprenticeship has allowed me to realise how much I enjoy teaching PE/sport to the younger generation.
Would you like to share a good memory from your apprenticeship?
Some of the memories I have from the apprenticeship, is the children who started off seeming a little quieter as they view you as this new stranger within this school, changing into chatty and bubbly characters who are always able to put a smile on your face, and your able to do the same for them when they are upset.
Do you recommend other people to become an inspire+ apprentice?
Yes! I just feel like I have gained so much experience from the apprenticeship, not only of how to work with others but also how to manage things by myself.
