Apprentice of the Month – June 2024
Tell us a bit about your background and what led you to this apprenticeship.
I’ve always been involved in sports and passionate about teaching, which made this path a natural fit for me. What really solidified my decision to pursue the Inspire+ apprenticeship was a talk I attended at Stamford College. It gave me the insight and motivation to apply, as it seemed like the perfect opportunity to grow both personally and professionally.
What motivated your decision to join the Inspire+ apprenticeship? Did your parents or other factors influence your choice?
It was really the talk at Stamford College that sparked my interest. I saw the apprenticeship as a great career pathway, especially since I wasn’t keen on going to university. I felt it offered the perfect mix of hands-on experience and coursework, which suited my learning style.
What valuable skills have you gained from your apprenticeship so far?
I’ve learned a lot about delivering sessions confidently and coming up with new session ideas. I’ve also improved my public speaking and overall confidence when teaching, which has been a huge benefit.
What skills have you gained from the training provided?
Training has been a great source of fresh session ideas and has further developed my ability to adapt activities to different skill levels.
What do you enjoy most about your apprenticeship?
I love the balance between coursework and face-to-face sessions. It allows me to put what I’m learning into practice, making it an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
What are your future career ambitions?
My goal is to become a football coach at a high level. This apprenticeship is giving me the foundation I need to work toward that dream.
Can you share a memorable moment from your apprenticeship?
A memorable moment for me was adapting my sessions for children with different abilities. For example, I used a tennis racket instead of a rounders bat for children who weren’t as able, while adding challenges for those who were more advanced. It was great to see how simple adjustments can make a big difference in their engagement and enjoyment.
Would you recommend the Inspire+ apprenticeship to others?
Absolutely! I’ve already recommended it to a friend who is applying for schools next year. This apprenticeship has helped me develop in teaching and has been a really enjoyable experience overall.
