Hi, my name is Fin. My main interest is football, but I enjoy all sports. I saw this apprenticeship with inspire+ advertised, and I thought it was a great set-up and an opportunity I couldn’t turn down.
I had a lot of previous experience with teaching as I went to South Hunsley School and took BTEC sport at A level.
Part of the BTEC course was planning sporting events for local schools in our community. I also helped out at St Anne’s, a special needs school, so I gained a lot of experience. It really intrigued me
whilst I was doing it.
What did you learn during your apprenticeship?
During my apprenticeship, I gained a lot of knowledge related to my job, which all came in handy. Specific skills such as creating a session plan. This made creating sessions much easier with my job.
What skills did you learn from attending training one day per week?
I learnt many teamwork and communication skills during the inspire+ training. I also learnt a lot of academic skills by completing the content. Making the reflective accounts also helped me by reflecting on my lessons and how I acted. Confidence was one of the main skills I gained from the sessions as I was with new people, and it enabled me to come out of my shell.
What did you enjoy about your apprenticeship?
While doing the apprenticeship, I enjoy and still do what I love. Learning whilst working was also very enjoyable as I was relating to my personal experiences whilst doing college work.
What do you hope to achieve in the future? What are your career ambitions?
I plan to qualify as a professional full-time PE teacher in the future, so I can carry my career upward and experience more within this fantastic job.
