Apprentice of the Month – February 2024

Could you please share some insights about yourself?

Playing football with a group of my mates and going to watch Leicester City with my dad every week are some of my favourite activities. I cherish the camaraderie and teamwork that comes with playing football, and it’s a great way to stay active and build friendships. Watching Leicester City games with my dad has been a longstanding tradition that I look forward to every week, as it’s a fantastic way to bond and share our passion for football.

What motivated your decision to become an Inspire+ apprentice?

I was motivated to become an Inspire+ apprentice because I wanted to be a positive role model and make a difference in the lives of young people. The idea of inspiring children to lead active, healthy lifestyles and helping them discover their love for sports resonated with me. I wanted to contribute to their development and be someone they could look up to.

What valuable insights and skills have you gained thus far during your apprenticeship?

During my apprenticeship, I have gained valuable insights and skills from working in different environments. I’ve learned how to adapt to various settings and situations, which has improved my flexibility and problem-solving abilities. This experience has taught me how to effectively communicate with different age groups and how to manage diverse groups of children, each with their unique needs and personalities.

What skills have you learned from attending training one day per week?

Attending training one day per week has allowed me to learn different skills in a variety of sports. I’ve gained a broader understanding of how to teach and coach multiple sports, which has enhanced my versatility as a sports coach. This training has also equipped me with new techniques and methods to engage children in sports activities, making them more enjoyable and inclusive for everyone

What do you enjoy about your apprenticeship?

One of the things I enjoy most about my apprenticeship is having a good relationship with both the staff and the children. Working in a supportive and friendly environment makes the experience rewarding and enjoyable. I find great satisfaction in seeing the children happy and excited about participating in sports. Building these positive relationships has been one of the highlights of my apprenticeship.

What do you hope to achieve in the future? What are your career ambitions?

In the future, I hope to continue working in a field related to PE, possibly staying within the realm of sports coaching or education. My apprenticeship has solidified my passion for teaching and coaching, and I aim to further develop my skills and knowledge in this area. Ultimately, I want to have a lasting impact on the lives of young people, helping them to grow and succeed through sports.

Would you like to share a good memory from your apprenticeship?

One of my favourite memories from the apprenticeship is seeing people happy and excited about participating in sports. There have been moments when children who were initially reluctant to join in have gradually opened up and started enjoying the activities. Witnessing their transformation and knowing that I played a part in making sports fun and accessible for them has been incredibly fulfilling.

Do you recommend other people to become an inspire+ apprentice?

Absolutely, I highly recommend becoming an Inspire+ apprentice. It’s been an incredible experience so far, offering a unique combination of hands-on learning and professional development. The apprenticeship provides invaluable skills and experiences that are beneficial for anyone considering a career in sports, education, or coaching. It’s a fantastic opportunity to make a positive impact while gaining practical experience and earning a qualification.
