Apprentice of the Month – July 2024
Could you share some insights about yourself and your journey into the apprenticeship?
After studying sports and coaching courses at both college and university levels, I felt that joining Inspire+ was the perfect step forward for me. Alongside my studies, I am an ambassador for LFAK FC, where I support local children in the community. I also coach the Holme Rovers Pan Disability team and frequently take on challenges to support local charities. These experiences inspired me to continue growing in this field.
What motivated your decision to join Inspire+? Did you receive any encouragement from family, or were there other reasons?
I saw Inspire+ as an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience while continuing to learn and grow. The chance to develop my skills practically, rather than purely through coursework, was very appealing. This pathway felt more suited to my style of learning.
What valuable insights and skills have you gained during your apprenticeship so far?
I’ve learned a lot of valuable skills, from behavior management to the importance of working collaboratively. Teamwork is one of the most valuable aspects of this experience, both in schools and in my coaching outside of the apprenticeship.
What skills have you developed from the one-day-per-week training sessions?
The training has deepened my knowledge of various sports, and I’ve been able to incorporate that into both my school coaching and my work outside of school. It’s been a great way to broaden my coaching techniques.
What do you enjoy the most about your apprenticeship?
I really enjoy the sense of teamwork that is fostered by the course instructors. The open discussions and debates we have are a great way to share opinions and perspectives, which helps everyone grow.
What are your future goals and career ambitions?
I aim to build a successful career in the sports industry. My focus is on using the skills and experience I’ve gained to continuously improve my coaching and, in turn, the athletes I work with.
Do you have a memorable moment from your apprenticeship you’d like to share?
One of my favorite experiences has been bringing rugby, a sport I’ve grown up with, into my work. I’ve successfully run several after-school rugby clubs and taken part in competitions. Another equally rewarding experience has been setting up an “All Inclusive” club. This club caters to children on the SEN register, giving them the same opportunities for out-of-school sports as their peers. Inclusive coaching has been a huge focus for me.
Would you recommend the Inspire+ apprenticeship to others?
Absolutely! I would recommend Inspire+ to anyone who wants to build their coaching career through a combination of experience and theory learning. It’s a great way to grow both personally and professionally.
