‘Term 2 hosted our year 3 & 4 Talented athlete programme for 2021/22. Inspire+ ambassadors, Paralympian Sam Ruddock & Olympian Sophie Allen hosted specially selected pupils from all our members schools with 3 virtual twilight sessions focusing on key aspects to sporting success, teamwork, Biomechanics & diet & nutrition.
The twilights focused on teaching the athletes to take ownership of their talents by learning about the bigger picture of playing sports; with their parents over seeing their new knowledge to support them along the way. Sam & Sophie had the athletes making use of their space at home with sock challenges, Kahoot Quizzes to test knowledge retention, as well as preparing dinner for the whole family with a live cooking session!
The programme concluded with a morning full of physical activity focusing upon physiology at Walton Academy in Grantham. Parents got involved alongside their athletes to put their teamwork skills to the test. All participants got 2 jam packed hours of circuit training including Battle Ropes, Medicine balls, Swiss Balls & Boxing, followed by an creative & an engaging yoga class with inspire+ coach Kelsey.
Parents commented on how enthusiastic children were from being part of the programme and for some if had helped them regain their confidence following the effects of lockdown. Teachers and Parents were delighted with the information retention by the young people, hang onto all the information from Sam and Sophie and putting it into their sporting practices straight away.
All athletes received a certificate of completion to sign off their new sporting knowledge ready to put into practise in their everyday lives. ‘
