Hello, my name is Charlie, and I have always been interested in sports. The sports I like the most are football and cricket. I have been a part of a village cricket team, and I also love to play football with my friends. I have always been passionate about sports and fitness, so I wanted to take on this apprenticeship. I wanted to teach others about different sports so I can motivate others to keep themselves active in the community. My main ambitions and goals now are to become a teaching assistant or a teacher/PE teacher so I can help others with other subjects in education so they can be successful in want they want to do.
What did you learn during your apprenticeship?
In my apprenticeship, I learnt about the different ways of teaching PE in school. In addition, the apprenticeship helped me develop more confidence when teaching in my working environment, with help from my tutor and colleagues. The apprenticeship also gives you more knowledge and understanding about different techniques in teaching PE.
What skills did you learn from attending training one day per week?
The skills I learnt from attending training 1 day per week were:
- Developing more confidence to take into the workplace.
- Up-to-date knowledge and information to take back into the workplace.
- How to deal with different types of behaviours.
- How to make good lesson plans using the training from my tutor.
- Developing communication skills.
What did you enjoy about your apprenticeship?
There have been many things I enjoyed during my apprenticeship. It was great to make new friends. We had the opportunity to share our knowledge and experiences from the different schools we have worked in. I had a fantastic tutor that helped me develop my self-confidence to become the best PE teacher I could be.
The workplace I was working with on my apprenticeship was helpful and supportive when I was developing my confidence to teach.
The apprenticeship was very supportive as my tutor and workplace would work together to help me grow as a PE teacher/ coach. This made my apprenticeship enjoyable as everyone was friendly (my tutor, the workplace, and people on the course with me). I could always go and ask for help when needed.
What do you hope to achieve in the future? What are your career ambitions?
I want to become a teaching assistant or a teacher/PE teacher to help others with their other subjects so they can learn and achieve their goals throughout education and in the community.
This apprenticeship has now given me the confidence to help me achieve my goals and ambitions and more knowledge about how to work in a school.
